I will be going on a first date with my forever crush next week and I need him to see me as a desirable Leche Flan for dessert. Kindly send me effective pimple remedies on your reply. Don’t bother replying if you’re going to send me cookie-cutter everyone’s beautiful in their own way BS. Love, Gemmalyn.”

Causes of Pimples
The target of acne are mostly teenagers but it also goes its own pesky way to come after an adult like me.
Acne involves sebum’s (oily substance) buildup in the pores of the skin. Sebum is made by the sebaceous glands under the skin. Trapped sebum can cause pimples.
Pimples, our favorite to hate, are either small or huge, pus-filled, reddish skin breakouts that can be temporary or chronic depending on the skin’s condition.
These nasty pests are not generally detrimental to one’s health but when ignored, can become infected or evolve into cysts.
Acne majorly affects people’s lifestyle. Some people with acne/pimples can lose confidence and hinder them from doing the things they love all because of anxiety and embarrassment.
Other Causes of Pimples
- Teenagers with Hormonal imbalance.
- Greasy Hair.
- Anxiety and Stress.
- High-Fat and High-Sugar Diet.
- Unsanitary lending/borrowing makeup tools like brushes and sponges.
- Lack of hygienic practices.
- Reactions from Chemicals.
- Dirty environment.
There are countless pimple remedies online with the first page of Google filled with home remedies… cute but “Ain’t nobody got time for that!”.
I’m an advocate of innovation and as a Modern Pinay, I simply don’t have the time to make a mess in the kitchen for something that usually won’t work.
Home pimple remedies sound promising but some of us have hormonal acne, cystic acne, and etc. acne that need more than scrubbing lemons. We need effective pimple remedies for our pronounced pimples!
Alright Gemmalyn, there’s no need to yell. Let’s talk about the different types of effective pimple remedies and get your crush to notice you (in a good way).
Effective Pimple Remedies
Pimple Injections (The Celebrity Remedy)
Your favorite stars generally have great skin because they can maintain it financially. One of their favorites out of all the pimple remedies available out there is the Pimple Injection AKA Intralesional Steroid Injections.
This method is usually done when they have to go to an event with hundreds of cameras pointing at them and they need to get flawless shots (no it’s not a pun to injections lol).
Inflamed acne is injected with a low-dose diluted steroid preparation which in turn pacifies the pimple.
Take note that it just gets rid of the swelling and not the bacteria which causes it.
It’s not particularly the most effective way in the pimple remedies world but it’s something to take into consideration if you need a quick-fix.
Light and Laser Therapy
This type of method kills Propionibacterium acnes which causes acne inflammation.
The laser goes deep into the skin in order to damage sebaceous glands. Damaged sebaceous glands are less likely to produce oil and sebum but the safety and effectiveness of this therapy haven’t been fully proven yet so please consult your dermatologist.
It’s best done to oily skin types. (Know your Skin Type here for FREE)
Extraction and Drainage
This is usually done by a dermatologist to remove a large cyst, the type that hasn’t responded to medication.
Large cysts can cause pain and the extraction and drainage method reduces it. It also has a low risk in scarring. Please don’t pop your pimples by yourself especially if they turn to enlarged cysts.
Only doctors/dermatologists know how to treat these pesky buildups, they are equipped with the right process, knowledge, and medication.
Birth Control Pills
Please know that this treatment is not for everyone. It’s only recommended by discerning doctors who regularly encounter women with hormonal imbalances.
These pills can slightly increase heart disease, blood clots, and hypertension so experimenting with them is a no-go.
Only consider this if your doctor tells you to do so.

Microdermabrasion and Chemical Peels
This is my favorite because it not only gets rid of pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads, it also comes with other skin benefits such as fairer skin, even-toned skin, younger skin, more elastic skin, and etc.
In the Philippines, these procedures are usually done alongside with acne-removal facials.
Not only will the professionals pop your pimples to perfection but they’ll also treat your face the way it should be treated.

Topical Acne Creams
An Anti-Acne Cream should be the initial go-to in terms of treating pimples. It is non-invasive and is generally one of the most effective pimple remedies that’s easily accessible to everyone.
The common topical acne creams usually come from Vitamin A which include tretinoin, tazarotene, and adapalene.
There are also topical antibiotics which greatly aid in getting rid of excess bacteria.
Benzoyl Peroxide is also popular when it comes to effective pimple remedies. Although it has delivered great results to a lot of Gemmalyns, please be warned that it should only be used sparingly.
Excess use of Benzoyl Peroxide can harm the skin.
If you have inflamed acne, a Dapsone Gel can help you get rid of it.
If you are looking for a milder alternative, you can also look up products with Salycilic Acids.
Please consult your doctor because although these creams are non-invasive, applying the wrong amount of these medications can cause peeling, redness, stinging, and burning.
Effective Pimple Remedies for Cystic Acne
I’m going to list 2 medications that are usually prescribed by doctors if you have a huge amount of pimples that time can’t simply erase.
Antibiotic is one of the best aids in pimple remedies.
Oral antibiotics are usually prescribed by doctors to get rid of bacteria. They are usually given after surgeries or to cure illnesses that are caused by bacteria.
Tetracycline, a form of an oral antibiotic, is usually prescribed by a dermatologist to be used alongside an Anti-Acne Topical Cream.
It takes about 4-6 weeks for most patients to see improvements on their skin when this medication is used.
Doctors will get you off antibiotics once your skin condition improves or the medication loses its efficacy.
Never ever do self-medication. Ask your sugar daddy or whoever your source of income is in order to afford a consultation with a doctor.
If your pimples were crafted by the devil himself, antibiotics may not be enough.
Popularly known as Accutane or Roaccutane, Isotretinoin is usually prescribed when you have deep cysts.
It affects the whole body and one course of medication can last up to 4-6 months.
Doctors prescribing Isotretinoin should monitor the patient closely as this medication has a risk of SERIOUS SIDE-EFFECTS.
Pregnant women should not take Isotretinoin because it can lead to fetal abnormalities.
Some of the unwanted side-effects of this medication includes nosebleeds, liver damage, joint pain, and severe dry skin (with a bonus of cracking skin).
Adverse effects not only affect a person physically but mentally as well.
Suicidal tendencies and Depression have been experienced by some Isotretinoin users though the cause of the relationship with the medication and the mental disorder has not yet been confirmed.
Just be mindful and talk to a specialist.
2/3 of people who have been prescribed with this medication have seen lasting effects without their cystic acne making a cameo anymore.
It’s highly effective but in all types of medication, there are always side-effects.
Tips to Prevent Acne Breakouts (Bonus)
Lessen the use of Makeup
A lot of makeups contain mineral oils and dimethicone which can cause pimples. If you are not going to a special occasion which doesn’t include annoying DSLR photos and meeting important people, ditch the cosmetics.
People tend to think that moisturizing the skin will make it oily but contrary to that faux information, a well-moisturized skin will cause your sebaceous gland to produce less sebum (the usual culprit to pimples). Also look for “noncomedogenic” products which don’t cause acne breakouts.
Wash your face thoroughly
When I say clean, I mean CLEAN. Don’t just settle for 5 seconds of lathering your face with your favorite scented soap. Use a product that’s mild and wash your face twice daily. Don’t over-wash your face as it may cause dryness and irritation.
Also use a toner made for your skin type to eliminate the dirt you’ve accumulated throughout the day.
There are a lot of anti-acne creams that don’t need prescription in the saturated world of pimple remedies.
Usual products that contain Salicylic Acid, Lactic Acid, or Benzoyl Peroxide are very good in eliminating pimples.
Put your hair away from your face
Unless you’re dressing up as Cleopatra for a Halloween Party, you don’t need your hair covering parts of your face. The products that we use to style and maintain our hair contain oils, fragrances, and etc. that can cause irritation to our skin.
Hair is also a very good bacteria basin especially if you’re working on the field or in a dirty environment.
Try to pull your hair away from your face at all times.
There’s a reason why Ariana Grande always wears that cute pony tail look.
Get a job, buy a hair tie!
Some studies link stress to pimples. Think of positive thoughts. Go to a hippie’s page and look for love and light quotes. We don’t need the additional vexing stress, work is already too stressful as it is.
Stop looking at the people you dislike on Facebook, hit the unfollow button or if you’re feeling extra savage, block them.
Stop touching your face
You may think that your face is a proof of God’s existence but you seriously have to stop touching it.
Our hands are easily home to millions of germs and spreading those germs to your face is something that’s out of bounds in terms of sanity.
Have some common sense and get Christian Grey to tie your hands *wink wink*.
Choose what you eat
Foods high in dairy and sugar (especially processed foods) can trigger acne.
No matter how many creams you apply from the effective pimple remedies aisle of the store, if your insides are filled with acne-forming ingredients, your creams are useless.
If you can pull this off good luck to ya! I mean… I should, OK, I will… Can I start on Monday?
Avoid the sun
I’m saying this not because you’re Bella Swan. The sun can make your acne worse by causing it redness and inflammation. Some anti-acne medications can also make your skin sensitive to sunlight so please be mindful of what you’re taking.
You can always do your runway walk under the sun if you have the right sunblock with at least SPF 30.
Limit your time under the sun and avoid the hours from 10 A.M. – 2 P.M.
Just like what they say, prevention is better than cure. Try the little tips to avoid pimples first before going on a full-blown journey towards the most effective pimple remedies in the Philippines.
What’s Right for You?
In a world filled with pimple remedies, you are surely to fall into a pit of confusion.
There are countless doctors in the Philippines to help you choose the right treatment out of all the pimple remedies available in the market.
Severe acne is not something to be experimented with.
Choose a doctor, know your skin type, and eliminate the nasty buggers the right way.
